THE ASSESSMENT JOURNEY AT PAYHEMBURY PRIMARY SCHOOL
It begins with the curriculum planning; we drive our planning through the children's ideas and needs. See Moving Assessment On -document
Whole school practice from year 2 onwards. Using the science knowledge assessment booklets all children complete an initial assessment demonstrating their prior knowledge of the science topic. Each pupil has their own booklet and this follows them through each class. Children complete an initial sheet and then they return and complete the same sheet at the end of the topic including new knowledge.
Alongside this we use concept mapping. In the work books children identify key questions about the new topic- what would they like to know? These maps alongside the assessment booklets inform the planning.
Rising Stars Science Assessment tests are used to support teacher assessments at the end of the half term to provide a level for each child.
Each pupil has a progress book and completes three pieces of work each year. Three books will be assessed in detail all pieces of work will be levelled.
APP books are to be kept to demonstrate levelling examples from an identified group of pupils; these will be kept throughout their time in school.
A two week assessment period will begin last week in September and the first week of October. First two weeks in February and the last week in May and first week in June. All target setting and levelling will be completed and shared with Headteacher.
Final assessments will use optional SATs papers to support levels, with an overall TA assessment to be recorded.
In year 6 writing evidence is kept and levelled monthly. Children make their own choice of which pieces are put into their portfolio. This collection of work will be used to support external moderation of writing for end of Key Stage 2 SATs levels.
Every teacher and teaching assistant uses record sheets for guided reading.
