PE & Sport

Payhembury Primary has the most fantastic setting to promote Physical Education, we are very lucky to have such fantastic facilities and equipment. We have a full sized football pitch, netball court and enough equipment that each child has the opportunity to have hands on experience every lesson. The local community provides tennis courts, we are able to go swimming in a locally owned indoor private pool which is heated and the new Parish Hall, which is now on site, will allow us to do our dance and gymnastic part of the curriculum.
Our Physical Education program aims to promote:
Promote a healthy lifestyle
Develop body management
Develop personal and social competence
Apply and adopt a range of skills
Encourage artistic appreciation
We liaise with The King's School Sports College in Ottery St Mary and this opens up fantastic opportunities, Kings keep us up with the latest initiatives in Physical Education, it allows us to create strong links with other Primary Schools in our area. The link to Kings also provides friendly competition with other primary schools. Kings run several sporting opportunities over the year:
Potted sports
Tag rugby
Football tournaments
Latest technology... dart fish training, specialist teaching e.g. dance, multi-skills
We also have good links with Rolle College, the local teacher training university, been a large institute they have fantastic facilities, which we could only dream of having in our Primary Schools. They allow us to book time with them to use their facilities. We organised to take the whole school to do the gymnastics part of the curriculum
We have adopted the new LEAP into life, PE curriculum for the Key Stage One Classes; we believe that healthy, active children achieve more. This new PE physical literacy initiative is designed to make sure that children get the very best start to their physical development. The LEAP into life programme allows children to enjoy a wide range of games and physical activities
The children play in a number of friendly matches against other local primary schools in both football and netball. In Key Stages 1 and 2, we liaise with The King's School Sports College in Ottery St Mary through a Key Stage 2/3 co-ordinators. This extends the opportunities available to the children.
Coaching sessions for various activities, such as hockey, netball, tennis, football and cricket are also available from time to time. Gymnastic and dance activities take place in the Parish Hall while swimming takes place in a locally owned indoor private pool which is heated.
