As a school with a Church of England foundation we naturally regard the religious education of the children as being of real importance. Religious education is given in accordance with the syllabus agreed by the Local Education Authority and the Diocese of Exeter, which encompasses a number of different faiths and practices.
The daily act of worship forms an integral part of each day and follows a number of themes. Reverend Cate leads a weekly service in Payhembury church for the children but this is an open service so we encourage our neighbours to join us. Children help in most acts of worship by organising the music and reading the relevant pieces from the bible. We are very lucky to have the use of the Church for services at Christmas, Easter and Harvest.
When we walk to the church for our service the children all have high visibility jackets for the short walk to ensure highest possible safety.
Parents have the right to withdraw children from religious education lessons and collective worship. Advance notice should be given to the Headteacher in writing.
